For the first time since 2019, the annual Sikh Community of Southern California Baisakhi Celebration will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Sunday, April 2nd

The program consists of a Kirtan Darbar (a day of sacred and spirited musical held in the royal court of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Guru of Sikhs) and a Nagar Kirtan (a traveling Kirtan parade with Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) encompassing a two-mile route in downtown L. A. The Kirtan Darbar begins at 7 am and continues until 3 pm followed by the Nagar Kirtan between 3-5 pm.

This year, more than 40 Ragi Jathas (groups) and Children’s Jathas will be playing in the Kirtan Darbar, representing more than 25 Gurudwaras spread across a broad range of California.  Ragis from Fresno in central California to Orange County, in the south and West Los Angeles to Indio in the east are travelling hundreds of miles to be a part of sharing with the sadh sangat the joy and spirit of Baisakhi. This is a time of renewal and rebirth of spirit which commemorates the important moment in Sikh history when Guru Gobind Singh Ji in April of 1699 inspired tens of thousands of Sikhs to live in the form of Khalsa; pure, courageous, and dedicated to “Cherdi kala” (ever-rising spirit) and to pledge themselves to serving humanity with love and peace. Hundreds of sevadars (volunteers) will come together to make the day festive, fun and nourishing… with Guru’s Langar served throughout the day.
