“This world is in a lot of pain. People are going crazy and these Jaap Sahib Chands (verses) are the tool to help them out of their depression and anger. This is what is required NOW. We need to penetrate the hearts of everyone so they can feel hope and love again.  Whenever you are in trouble mentally, or you are being attacked in one way or another, chant these words and opposition will dissolve in your face. Once you recite this mantra correctly, it will give you the power that whatever you say must happen. When you chant this mantra, you have the power to surpass anything.” ~Siri Singh Sahib Ji

  1. Truly the most beautiful and spiritual mantra I’ve ever seen. It does not beg for any favors or gifts, it only states the nature of the eternal divine. It is the best thing one can do, when meditating, to dwell on these attributes and realize that we are all THAT.

    • Balvir Kaur – It is said that if you can recite the mantra even once with full awareness that the power of the mantra is unlocked. But for most of us it takes more practice. There is no precise number of repetitions as each person will take a different number of repetitions to connect deeply to the full impact and benefit of the mantra. So, only you can explore that experience for yourself. Most people may want to start with reciting the mantra for at least 11 minutes in each sitting. Or that could be extended to 32 minutes or even 61 minutes. As far as the best time of day to practice this mantra, any time of day is fine but many people may find the hours just prior to the rising of the sun to be the most effective.

      • 11 minutes? 32 minutes? 61 minutes? All else is “open”, but those precise timings should be respected? Hmmmm…. not sure what that means…. especially when meditating on a timeless, formless entity, such as the Divine. Immersion is important, and it can take any amount of time, doesn’t matter how much, how often etc… What matters is how we feel about this mantra in our heart, how deep we can embrace the meaning of the stances. It may take time, but we have plenty of time, since time doesn’t really exist!

      • Good morning, my name is Miriam and I have discovered this website recently and I feel grateful for all the information , so useful and interesting, thanks. I am just a beginner in Kundalini Yoga and Ajai Alai is really the only mantra I feel attracted to, don’t know why. May I ask you, would it be possible that a unique mantra could heal and protect a person totally, in body, mind, karma and spirit, if recited constantly with complete surrender and devotion? I would study and discover other mantras of course, but I need to heal an heavy karma in all aspects, included physically, and I am attracted primarily to this mantra and to the 10th Guru who composed it… despite the fact the I know other mantras like Ra ma da sa, could help me to heal, but I recite them and don’t feel the same will at all as Ajai alai… so I am confused because they told me each mantra is for a specific purpose… But my intuition does not agree.I don’t know, Thank you for any kind reply

        • KirtanSingh says:

Miriam, you are well set to follow your intuition. If Ajai, Alai is calling to you, simply answer the call. It shall provide you with all the healing and protection you want and need or even know you want and need. Please be sure to feel and know that it is working and has already worked completely. Close the time gap between what you want and need and allow Guru to come through now and always.

  2. Thank you so much for this post music and education. I play the Music as I go to sleep and as I drive into work. it puts my mind in the right place during sleep and works with my radiant body during sleep. I sing along as I drive to work, these are all helping me to learn it. I also do the meditation before I start my day. This is helping me to lighten my body so much. Thank you. Sat Nam

  3. There’s a really nice version on YouTube which is 1 hour and 3 minutes long … nicely sung and written in Punjabi and English on screen so you can sing along. Its by Medative Mind … hope you like it

    • OngKar Kaur Khalsa says:

Wahe Guru. Thank you, Jagtar. Yes, Meditative Mind videos are great. Just added a link to that video on this post. Thank you for the suggestion. Blessings to you.

  4. I have searched and have not found a way to learn to pronounce this mantra. I need to be able to do that to then memorize it. Help?

    • Pritpal Singh Khalsa says:

Hi Donna – you need to search no further as right at the bottom of this article there is a link to a list of several good recordings of this mantra set to music. There are some videos on Youtube which provide the whole Jaap Sahib, from which this mantra is drawn. And there are several Nitnem apps available which will also have Jaap Sahib available. You will naturally be able to memorize this after a few sessions of reciting along with a recording of your choice. FYI: the language of this sacred text was composed in Braj Bhasha (or Braj Pasha) and then written in Gurmukhi.

  5. I am memorizing and chanting this mantra on my stationary bike using dhyana to best focus awareness and quiet the mind…the breath, the movement, the vibration of the beautiful Sanskrit, all serve pratyhara…

  6. When I first chanced upon this song , I thought this is Persian.
Even if it was in Persian I would have loved it.
To connect to God no language is required, your intent matters. That’s it.

    • Sada Bahar Kaur Khalsa says:

Sat Nam Matias, I’m sorry I’m not clear what you are asking. Were you looking for an acappella or unaccompanied version of Ajai Alai?

    • Instrumental, as in words sung to instrumental accompaniment? All of the above are that. If you mean, just instruments, no words… what would be the point of that? There is no “official” composition for a mantra, you can make up your own melody if you wish. But… the words are what make a mantra a mantra, not the music behind it. Hope this helps! Namaste!
