Autumn brings the blessing of celebrating the birthday of Guru Ram Das Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru, who is lovingly known as the Lord of Miracles. Guru Ram Das was the personal Guru of the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan. The 3HO/Sikh Dharma communities around the world look to Guru Ram Das for guidance, love, health and connection to the Divine.
Guru Ram Das is recognized historically for having written the Laavan, the four “rounds” in the Sikh wedding ceremony and the four Engagement Shabads. He founded the city of Amritsar, India and laid plans for the Harimandir Sahib, Golden Temple which is recognized around the world as the most sacred temple for Sikhs. Designed to have four entrances, one on each side, to welcome people from every caste, background, gender, religion or country, the Golden Temple is surrounded by a nectar tank that is legendary for it’s healing properties.
The Siri Singh Sahib gave a special sadhana in honor of Guru Ram Das’ birthday. Across the globe, communities recognize this time as a potential for miracles, fulfillment of prayers and receiving many blessings and so in addition to the special sadhana, it has also become tradition for the worldwide community to come together to chant for the 11 days leading up to Guru Ram Das’ birthday.
September 28th – October 8th
For 31 minutes each day, communities around the world chant Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru (the “Shabad of Miracles).
On Guru Ram Das Ji’s birthday, the global community celebrates with a special sadhana of chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 2 ½ hours in the Amrit Vela.
Sikh Dharma International hosts a livestream channel which features communities around the world participating in this celebration. You may practice the sadhana on your own or you can join in with any of our featured sangat celebration events.
