Japji Sahib – 5th Pauree

5th Pauree

The Fifth Pauree must be recited when you feel a sense of failure within yourself.

When you feel that you are not up to the job this pauree will grant you all success.

Excerpted from the book Guru Nanak’s Call of the Soul: Japji Sahib:

The fifth pauree is pivotal in that Guru Nanak tells us that if we serve the immaculate and pure One, we receive honor.
Sing the praises of the One and listen to those praises being sung and you become absorbed in Divine Love. Simply singing is not enough. We must also listen and as we do, let the mind be filled with love. Guru Nanak tells us what happens when this love floods our consciousness, “Your pain shall be sent far away and peace shall come to your home.” Give all your pain to the Guru, and the love of the One will fill your being . . . In times of doubt and insecurity, when you feel failure surround you and pain overpower you, that is the time to chant the 5th pauree of Japji Sahib. You will surrender your self-depreciation to the Guru and be filled with the sacredness that is your birthright.

The True One cannot be established,

the True One cannot be created.

The True One is immaculate and pure.

Those who serve the True One are honored.

O Nanak, sing of the True One, the treasure of excellence.

Sing and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.

Your pain shall be sent far away,

and peace shall come to your home.

The Guru’s Word is the sound-current of the Naad;

the Guru’s Word is the wisdom of the Vedas;

the Guru’s Word is all-pervading.

The Guru is Shiva, the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma;

the Guru is Parvati and Lakhshmi.

Even knowing God, I cannot describe the True One;

the True One cannot be described in words.

The Guru has given me this one understanding.

There is only the One, the Giver of all souls,

may I never forget the True One!
