Mother Earth Warrior: Sat Sansar Singh Khalsa (Chile)

Sat Sansar Singh monitoring groundwater.

How are you currently working to help the planet?

I am the Executive Director of MAYCO Consultores, which provides consulting services in soil and groundwater cleanup. We work with government agencies and help them establish standards and procedures. We also work with corporations and help them achieve compliance with regulatory standards at their sites. Finally, we educate the general public about the implications of interactions with soil and groundwater.

What do you consider the most important planetary actions we, as global citizens, should be taking?

We need to reduce our environmental footprint in general. The most important action I feel is for all of us to reduce our CO2 emissions in order to try to moderate our impact on the global climate. Second to that, I consider reducing our water footprint and improving water supply to all to be top priorities.

How are you taking these actions?

At a personal level I try to reduce my car usage by consolidating trips and trying to use public transportation as much as I can. I also check the CO2 impacts when making purchasing decisions.

What are the biggest challenges that you encounter in your work toward saving Mother Earth?

I feel in general it all boils down to one thing: our collective lack of awareness about the Oneness of all there is, including us humans and the environment. That is where I feel Yogi Ji´s teachings, our 3HO lifestyle and the Sikh way of life can be a tremendous help by bringing experiential inner awareness of the interconnectedness of all there is, and that every internal move of energy, be it a thought or an action, has an impact on the outside world.

Could you give us some tips to help our environment?

Be aware of the impact that we are having on the environment, and that it requires a collective effort to change the trend. I feel it is definitely doable, and that it requires efforts from all of us.

If you had the chance to speak to every single person on the planet, what would you tell them?

It is time to act. Even a small change in behavior can do a lot for the environment. If we want to change the trend and continue having Mother Earth as a beautiful home, we need to be all on the same boat.

Salar de Michincha, Chile.
