As part of the Raj Khalsa Yatra, we will travel to Amritsar. On this page, you will find insights on the history and inspiration of this holy place and find out more about some of the activities you will have the opportunity to participate in.
Originally called Ramdaspur – Guru Ramdas’s City (the City of God’s Servant), it is now called Amritsar which means”pool of nectar”. You may also hear it referred to as Harimandir Sahib (the abode of God) or Darbar Sahib (court of the Guru). Darbar Sahib is a term of endearment for the main hall within a Sikh gurdwara. This hall is where the holy text, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib resides
Amritsar is home to the Golden Temple which is considered one of the most beloved places and holds a very special place in the hearts of Sikhs. At the Golden Temple, you will have the opportunity to meditate and listen to Gurbani (Divine Spiritual Music); to participate in the Seva (selfless service) of preparing, serving and cleaning up from the free meals which are served to thousands of people each day; to practice Kundalini Yoga; and to visit Miri Piri Academy (a school that Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan started).
