Yatra is a holy journey.  We must go into the center, the heart center.  It is a journey on earth to one’s “Isht”- one’s higher self, one’s altar. It is a self-purification.  So, we go from here to designated holy places & we have no other work but to get up in the morning to meditate, to go to these beautiful surroundings.  Sometimes our mind hassles us, but we do conquer it.  This is the purpose of Yatra.  ~Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan

In December of 1970, Yogi Bhajan traveled to India with 84 students. For the first time, the new western Sikhs were bathed in the golden light of the Harimandir Sahib. Bowing their heads at the Golden Temple was a transformational experience for them. Many were moved to take Amrit in a ceremony performed by the Jathedar of the Akal Takhat. For the first time in history, men and women born in the West were standing before the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as sons and daughters of Guru Gobind Singh.

Since this first yatra more than 4 decades ago, our SDI community has made the journey to bow our heads and immerse ourselves in the history and vibration of the Land of the Gurus.  This page features our current yatras being planned and a history of yatras we have taken. (We generally go on a yatra to India every year, so if nothing is posted for upcoming yatras yet, you can sign up to receive information when the next yatra has been planned.)

If you would like information about future yatras, please request to be added to our information list here
