Rehras Sahib

Rehras Sahib is the Sikh evening bani (prayer), typically recited by Sikhs in the evening time around sunset (the twilight hours between 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.). Five different Sikh Gurus contributed to this evening prayer: Guru Nanak (first Sikh Guru), Guru Amar Das (third Sikh Guru), Guru Ram Das (fourth Sikh Guru), Guru Arjan (fifth Sikh Guru) and Guru Gobind Singh Ji (tenth Sikh Guru).

In Gurmukhi, “reh” means “live” and “raas” means “commodity, and so Rehras Sahib can be loosely translated as “living commodity.” This bani adds energy and rejuvenation (“raa-hu”) to one’s being.

This bani corresponds to the water element or tattva. Sikhs believe that recitation of Rehras Sahib can bring the blessings of calmness, peace and prosperity.
