The Power of Doing Seva

seva

“Seva” is selfless service performed without thought or desire for personal reward. For Sikhs, seva is the very source of our power. In Sikh Dharma, we believe that doing seva gives us friendship with our soul forever, and the breadth and depth to reach every heart. When immersed in seva, we gain beauty, grace and the bountiful bliss of God consciousness.

Sikhs do seva for the benefit of the sangat and others, without a thought of reward. When such humility reigns, God bows. He reaches out for the servers and service. The hand of God becomes the hand of man, and many hands become One. In turn, seva supports those environments that support the soul.

The practice of seva or selfless service enabled the Sikh Gurus to build a social structure capable of taking care of all the people’s basic needs. The work of seva gives those on the Sikh Dharma path everlasting friendships, and the breadth and depth to touch every heart. Sikhs believe that doing Seva can give us purity, beauty and grace of consciousness and the bountiful bliss of God.
