An Intimate Experience of Shabad Guru

As the sun starts to glow over the desert, people make their way along the tree lined path from morning Sadhana to the Gurdwara, with the sound of Gurbani Kirtan guiding them on. They are welcomed at the entrance with booklets, head covers and smiles, as they join the Sangat (community) in this sacred space.

One of our great blessings is the opportunity to come together for morning Sadhana and Gurdwara, where Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma overlap to form a beautiful experience of sound and devotion to our inner truth.

Each program begins with Kirtan (devotional music), followed by a standing community prayer (Ardas) and a daily reading from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib (Hukam), which sets the energy and direction for the day.

For the participants, this is frequently a new environment, filled with unfamiliar experiences and the unexpected peace that comes with discovering another layer to their Kundalini yoga and meditation practice.

This year we will hold our 4th annual Connecting to the Guru class.  It is a cozy time for people to learn about Sikh Dharma, become familiar with the Gurdwara and have time for discussion. In the evenings, the community will continue to read in our Sahej Path, a complete reading of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, which started at the previous event a year ago.

We feel blessed to share in this way and to give people the opportunity for an intimate experience of the Shabad Guru.

In this class, we will familiarize ourselves with the Gurdwara (the Gate to the Guru), the Shabad Guru and the Path of Sikh Dharma.  Bring your thoughts and questions for discussion.

If you haven’t yet attended a gurdwara, here’s a video “Your First Visit to a Sikh Gurdwara” which will explain what to expect.
