After large floods in the Punjab, many Sikh and humanitarian groups emphasized not only rescue and rations, but also rehabilitation infrastructure such as roads, embankments, and village access routes. Without restored roads, relief trucks, ambulances, school buses, and farmers’ tractors struggle to move, which prolongs suffering and slows economic recovery.
When representatives from Sikh Dharma were in India for the Akal Dayal Yatra, we were grateful to donate the funds raised by our Sangat, for the Punjab Flood relief project, to Bhai Sahib Baba Sat Nam Singh of Qila Anandghar Kar Sewa, Shree Anandpur.
The Kar Seva team already had received machinery, the helping hand of many Sevadars, donation of construction materials, etc. Due to their high level of community trust, and the great dedication to Seva under Babaji’s tireless inspiration, the Kar Seva team was able to lead the project of road repair quickly and cost‑effectively.
Collaboration with a respected religious seva project aligns with Sikh Dharma’s emphasis on combining spiritual practice with concrete, on‑the‑ground service. In the spirit of Sarbat da Bhala (good will to all), special emphasis has been given to care of wildlife and fauna and the construction of animal overpasses, water canals for rainwater run offs, etc. A unique and beautiful project of lining the road with special gardens on both sides, which will be planted only with trees mentioned in The Siri Guru Granth Sahib has also been started.
The Sikh Dharma delegation which visited the roadside seva camp, were all humbled and uplifted by seeing the spirit of selfless Sevadars in action, and the great transformation which their work has produced to the quality of life in the region.
