The Parliament of the World’s Religions invites essays that engage its signature document, “Towards a Global Ethic (An Initial Declaration),” also known as the Global Ethic, in the lead-up to its 2023 international interfaith Convening in Chicago, USA. The top three contest winners will receive a cash prize, complimentary registration to the 2023 Convening, and will give a reading of their essay in a dedicated program session. Essay Requirements
To be considered, essays must be 1000-word or less, written in English, and directly engage the Global Ethic document. Entries that address global ethics in a general way or the Global Ethic document peripherally will not be considered. Only one submission per person, please. Employees and trustees of the Parliament are not eligible.
Send entries as a .pdf or a Word file to Dr. Myriam Renaud, the Parliament’s Global Ethic Project Director, at mrenaud@parliamentofreligions.org. In your email, do not include any biographical or other information about yourself except for your name and email address. Submissions are due on or before midnight (US Central Standard Time) on March 30, 2023.
Contest Prize
First prize: $1000 USD; second prize $500 USD, third prize $250. The registration fee to the 2023 convening of Parliament will be waived for the top three prize-winners. Authors of these three essays will be invited to read their essays in a special program offered during the Convening. The three essays will also be featured on the Parliament’s website and published in the Parliament’s newsletter.
Winners will be announced on April 31.
