The Dharmic Office of Public Affairs attended a Santa Fe gala for Somos un Pueblo Unido (meaning: We are a united people) on February 26, 2019, an important organization in New Mexico representing the rights of immigrants.
Somos was founded in 1995 and is a statewide, community-based and immigrant-led organization that promotes worker and racial justice. Somos has an active membership of 2,500 people and provides education on rights and remedies, leadership opportunities for immigrants and low-wage workers, legal services, and grassroots support for local and national campaigns.
In 2018, New Mexico was the first State in US history to send an all-minority delegation to the US Congress, and this support of minority communities was quite clear at the gala, with luminaries, corporate leaders and elected officials from throughout the Southwest attending.
Key participants included New Mexico’s Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales, Santa Fe Mayor Allen Webber, District Attorney Marcos Serna, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, State Legislators, Judges and dozens upon dozens more.
