Yogi Bhajan on the Twentieth Pauree of Japji Sahib

Yogi Bhajan at Summer Solstice 1974.

This post is excerpted from a lecture Yogi Bhajan gave at Khalsa Women’s Training Camp in 1992

Action has a reaction equal and opposite. How to resurrect? That’s the twentieth pauri (of Japji Sahib). Twentieth pauri is explanation per scientific in the words of Nanak how you can excel.

I always call this twentieth the pauri of excellence.

[Yogi Bhajan instructs student to read the English translation of the twentieth pauri]:

When the hands and the body are covered with dirt, water can wash them clean.

When the clothes are dirty and smeared with oil, soap can remove the stain.

When the mind is polluted by error and shame, it can only be cleansed by the love of the name.

If a man is drawn by the virtuous or the vicious, let him know that he draws to himself the same.

As you sow, so shall you reap.

Oh Nanak, a man comes and goes as he wishes.

What more straightforward language do you want to hear?

Faith is one arm of courage. Belief (is the second) and third is experience and fourth is courage. There are two legs and there are two arms. Faith and belief are the legs, courage and experience are the arms.

If you choose to walk and you walk God will pave the way, but you have to choose to walk. That’s your free will whether you choose or not, and you have to walk, that is you ego, and you walk, that is your ego in action. And if you don’t play games God will pave the way.
