Guru Sangat Kaur Khalsa gave a wonderful invocation for the 36th day of the 2020 session of the Virginia House of Delegates in Richmond on February 12.
She appeared at the invitation of Delegate David Reid, who serves the 32nd District of Virginia in the Virginia House of Delegates and has visited Raj Khalsa Gurdwara in Sterling, VA on a number of occasions and gotten to know community members.
The Virginia House of Delegates, like many state legislatures around the country, begins each day they are in session with an invocation. The tradition to open sessions with a prayer dates back to the British Parliament. In recent years, these prayers have become ecumenical, to reflect demographic shifts and growing religious diversity in states across the U.S.
Guru Sangat Kaur’s invocation for the day’s session was very well-received. Guru Sangat Kaur, Guru Sangat Singh and Darshan Singh of the Herndon sangat all attended the invocation and had excellent interactions with a number of Delegates afterward, and greatly enjoyed their visit to the lower house of the Virginia General Assembly.
