Raag Majh – Guru Arjan Dev Ji – Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji – Ang 105

Jithai naam japee-ai prabh pi-aray

Say asthal so-in chaubaaray

Jithai naam na japee-ai mayray go-idaa

Say-ee nagar upaaree jee-o

Har rukhee rotee khaa-i samaalay

Har antar baahar nadar nihaalay

Khaa-i khaa-i karay badafailee

Tayree saran mayray deen da-i-aalaa

Sukh saagar mayray gur gopaalaa

Kar kirpaa Naanak gun gaavai

Raakh-ho saram asaaree jee-o

Raag Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

Where the Name of God the Beloved is chanted,

Even those abandoned places are like castles of gold.

And where the name of my World-Lord is not repeated,

Those towns are like the wilderness.

One who, while eating dry bread, remembers the Lord,

Is blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace,

Within and beyond himself.

But one who eats and eats, and does evil,

Know that he is like an orchard of poison.

One who does not bear love for the Saints,

And who practices corruption in the company of the wicked,

That ignorant person loses this priceless human body.

And he himself uproots his own roots.

I have sought Your Sanctuary, O Lord,

Merciful to the meek.

You are the Ocean of Peace,

O my Guru, O World-Lord.

Bestow Your Mercy, that Nanak may sing Your Glorious Praises.

Preserve His Honor, O Lord!
