To hold fast to the True Name is the very essence of my being.
Though to the public I am pleasant,
My outward projection is but a show.
For I remain detached — like the lotus on the water. (Pause)
I may answer to All with my tongue,
Yet by my heart to the Lord I am bound.
Though awe-inspired I may appear,
The dust of the feet of humanity are my mind, heart and soul.
Nanak, the servant of the Lord’s, has found his perfect Guru,
Who has revealed unto him the One Lord within and without.
