Psyche of the Mother Meditation

“Fruitful are the lives of those who walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

Their families are saved; blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them.

By His Will He grants His Grace; those who are so blessed, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.”

Guru Amar Das ji, Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji, Ang 28

This meditation was taught by Yogi Bhajan on July 11, 1986

“….I am asking you to give yourself a chance. Just feel that you are creative. It is called mother psyche. And you know what mother psyche can do? It can shield you, it can protect you, it can bring you success, it can bring you opportunity…” ~Yogi Bhajan

Experience what a Mother does. Imagine there’s a baby cradled in your arms. With each inhale you are caring for it. Each time you inhale the cradle rises up and down very gently. Don’t feel shy. It is very accurate.

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine.

Mudra: Make a cradle with your arms. The left arm is underneath the right, and the left hand holds the right elbow. The right hand is relaxed and flat against the body. On each stroke of the inhale, the arms lift up and down slightly and very gently, as though you are bouncing a baby.

Breath & Mantra:

Listen to the mantra Rakhe Rakhanhar. Inhale in 8 strokes on the first line of the mantra, exhale in one long stroke through the nose on the second line of the mantra. Continue in this way, alternating the 8-stroke inhalation and the long exhalation with the lines of the mantra.

Transliteration of the Mantra

Rakhay Rakhanhaar aap ubaariun

Gur kee pairee paee-eh kaaj savaariun

Hoaa aap dayaal manho na visaariun

Saadh janaa kai sung bhavjal taariun

Saakat nindak dusht khin maa-eh bidaariun

Tis sahib kee taayk naanak mania maa-eh

Jis simrat such ho-eh saglay dookh jaa-eh

Translation of the Mantra

God Himself is looking out for us,

gives us the light and takes care of our affairs.

God is merciful and never forgets us.

God guides us, giving us good people to help us.

God does not allow hurt to come to us.

I will take comfort in the thought of God.

When I remember God, I feel peaceful and happy and all my pain departs.

Comments: These are the words of Guru Arjan, the 5th Sikh Guru, and are for complete protection. It is from the Sikh evening prayer (Rehiras), which adds energy to one’s being, and helps when you are physically weak or have limited wealth. It is a victory song which allows us to be guided by God’s graceful and merciful hand. It does away with the obstacles to fulfilling one’s destiny.

Time: 31 minutes.
