Twenty-eight years ago, on June 6, 1984, the sacred throne of the Akal Takhat came under attack. It was a tragic situation for the Sikh community. Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji believed that the Akal Takhat could never be destroyed without its own consent. He viewed the events of that day as a conscious and willing decision on the part of the Akal Takhat to sacrifice itself in order to awaken the spirit of the Khalsa.

In the months and years after June 6, 1984, Sikh Dharma International has held a memorial Gurdwara on the 6th of every month to commemorate and honor this sacrifice. The Siri Singh Sahib gave guidance to the sangat to come together and pray on the 6th of every month until the day comes when the Akal Takhat can never be attacked again.

During this 28th anniversary of what has come to be known as the martyrdom of the Akal Takhat, Sikh Dharma International is grateful to share a few historical pieces published in 1984 – recounting the message of the Siri Singh Sahib about the events.
