Sri Raag, Fifth Mehl:

One who is confronted with dire difficulty, to whom no one offers any support;

Whose friends have turned into enemies, and even kinsmen have deserted him;

When all support has given way and all hope has been lost –

If he should then remember the Supreme Lord, even the hot wind shall not touch him.

O Master, Power of the powerless:

Who neither comes nor goes, and is ever permanent,

By the Guru’s Word, He is known as True.

If one is weak from the pangs of hunger and poverty,

If one’s pockets are empty of money, and none are there to give him comfort,

If none of his aims and desires are fulfilled, and none of his works accomplished,

If he should then remember the Supreme Lord, he shall attain the Kingdom Eternal.

One who is plagued by tremendous anxiety, whose body is wracked by disease,

Who is wrapped up in household and family, who suffers now pain, and now pleasure,

Who wanders about in all four directions, who cannot sit or sleep even for a moment,

If he should then remember the Supreme Lord, his body and soul shall be cooled.

He who is driven by lust, anger and attachment, who is a miser goaded by greed,

Who has committed the four great sins, and so is being destroyed,

Who has never lent his ears to sacred words of scripture or poetry,

If he should then remember the Supreme Lord, even for a moment, he is saved.

    • Guru Amrit Kaur Khalsa says:

      Sat Nam Clara, I believe reciting and / or listening to this shabad would be a beneficial practice. In addition, reciting the bani Benti Chaupai may also be helpful. Blessings to you.
