Reflections from MSS Hari Dharam Kaur Khalsa, Chief Granthi
The fifth Paurī must be recited when you feel a sense of failure within yourself. When you feel that you are not up to the job this Paurī will grant you all success.

We all want success and happiness in life, and to this end, we often go to great lengths to do whatever we consider will help us the most. The Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan once told me that there are two kinds of people: there are the people who love God, and then there are the people whom God loves. He explained that when God loves you, He accomplishes everything for you, without you even lifting a finger. From this I learned that the secret is not to “do” anything; instead of trying to act through the ego, we can let God resolve all our affairs and accomplish our tasks. Gurū Nānak explains how to do this through the fifth Paurī of JapJī which the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan translated: “Drop all your difficulties in the bag of God and fill your empty bag with positive affirmations and happiness, and go to your Home.” (2) In other words, give all of your pain and suffering to the Gurū and then simply bring peace and happiness into your own “Home”, into your own inner self. Lay your soul before God, and He blesses you with everything. So in those times that you may feel a sense of failure in yourself or that you are just not “up to” what a situation seems to demand of you, that is the time to seek help by reciting the fifth Paurī of JapJī. Reciting this Paurī, the Gurū personally pulls you out of the mire of self-doubt so that you can resonate with the divine purity and treasure of virtues that you already have within yourself. By chanting the fifth Paurī, you become one with the Naad, or sound current, and then you resonate with the vibration of Love. This is the resonance of the outer Gurū with your own inner Gurū. When you merge with the Gurū in this way, the unity with the Gurū brings out all of your virtues and shows you that you have had these virtues all along.
The fifth Paurī of JapJī explains that God is always stable and permanent, beyond being created or established by something or someone else. When you serve God, which is your own inner Infinity and purity, then you live in honor. The way to truly serve is to sing or chant of God’s virtues and listen to your own singing or chanting; this will cause you to be immersed in Divine Love. Then all your pain goes, and in its place, peace comes into your home, your true home of the inner self. The Gurū’s Naad, or sound current, is everywhere, and it is so wonderful and great that it cannot even be described. The Gurū gives the understanding that the Infinite is the only Giver to all the souls. You do not ever forget God: when you remember Him and seek His shelter through reciting the fifth Paurī of Jap Jī, then all your affairs are arranged and all your anxiety is removed. You have only to sit in your own home in peace and happiness as the love of the Divine blossoms in your heart.
