Japji Sahib – 33rd Pauree

33rd Pauree

The Thirty-third Pauree destroys your ego and brings home your divinity.
It removes negativity, neutralizes your destructive nature,
and prevents harm to others by your hand.

Excerpted from the book Guru Nanak’s Call of the Soul: Japji Sahib:

In the 33rd pauree, Guru Nanak teaches that we who are created by the Creator, have no power to do anything. All the power is in the hands of that One. Guru tells us that there is nothing we can do that will give us this power. Guru Nanak tells us that even to do the hard work of meditation comes as a gift by Divine Grace. In the 33rd pauree, Guru Nanak makes it clear that who we are and what station we hold in the Divine Plan is all in God’s hands, according to Divine Will. Guru Nanak affirms that the source of all things is the One and that human beings also come in form from that One. We have no power over life or death as it is all by Divine Will. We have no power over the physical world in which we live and we have no power in the spiritual realm. Guru Nanak advises that it is by the Grace of the True Guru that we learn the Name and it is only by recitation of the Name that we can change our painful fate into an elevated destiny.
“You ask for nothing and you will get everything. That’s the law. [The 33rd] pauree means ask for nothing and you will get everything. Whosoever will chant this pauree twenty-five times a day, there is nothing on the earth he or she will not have. This pauree Guru Nanak sang as a Sumpuran Kriya, a perfect, perfect seal.”
– Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, July 2, 1982

33rd Pauree

Aakhann jor chupai neh jor.

Jor na mangann daynn na jor.

Jor na jeevann marann neh jor.

Jor na raaj maal man sor.

Jor na surtee gi-aan veechaar.

Jor na jugatee chhuttai sansaar.

Jis hath jor kar vaykhai so-ei.

Naanak utam neech na ko-ei. II 33 II

No power to speak,

no power to keep silent.

No power to beg,

no power to give.

No power to live,

no power to die.

No power to rule,

with wealth and occult mental powers.

No power to gain

intuitive understanding,

spiritual wisdom and meditation.

No power to find the way to escape from the world.

He alone has the power in His Hands.

He watches over all.

O Nanak, no one is high or low.
